Ultrasound

Ultrasound inspections

A key category in “Non Destructive Testing “, used in predictive maintenance programs is the ultrasound inspections.

The principle of operation of this method is that: Emission of ultrasound is caused by effects such as leaks, lack of lubrication in bearings, mechanical wear, and electrical phenomena such as arcing, tracking and corona. To detect these abnormalities early, portable analyzers have developed, that give the opportunity for a trained ear to catch these anomalies and to prevent damage and unpleasant surprises.

More specifically, the ultrasound inspection can be done independently or joining a full schedule predictive maintenance. The applications that can be used with great success in highlighting potential problems are as follows:

Inspection of mechanical equipment

Bearings

Pump cavitation

Gear boxes

Motor and pumps

Lubrication assessment

Inspection of electrical equipment

Detection of arcing, tracking and corona to MV and HV installations

Circuit breakers

Transformers MV/LV

Bus bars

Leak detection:

Steam traps

Valves

Hatch tightness

Heat exchangers
